"How to Kill Classmate" Video Posted to YouTube by 11-, 12-Year Olds

What kind of sociopaths are being raised today? A group of 11- and 12-year old girls posted a video to YouTube (since removed) titled "Top Six Ways to Kill Piper."

They include such time-honored ways as shooting her, making her commit suicide, and pushing her off a cliff. Beth Smith, mother of Piper, told KING5-TV the cartoon was set to a Hannah Montana song called "True Friend" and posted on on the popular video sharing website, YouTube.

Now, some could call this just a joke, but really, it goes to show just how far kids will go in their cruelty to those they don't like in school. With the Internet, the teasing that would once be localized to a school can now go global.

Piper attends Elk Plain School of Choice in Spanaway, WA, as do the girls who made the video.

Worse, while some of the parents were shocked, others dismissed it. Smith said one man blew it off and "said he was making dinner."

The School District says it can't say how the girls were disciplined. But district spokeswoman Krista Carlson told the local TV station that the students involved "have expressed their remorse about this incident."

Disney buys stake in US video website Hulu

http://doubledoublethoughts.blogspot.com - Disney now owns a 25 percent stake in Hulu, the US video streaming website Disney has signed a content deal with US online video website Hulu, in exchange for a 25% per cent stake in the company, enabling users to see full episodes of Ugly Betty and Desperate Housewives for free.

The popular US-only site, jointly owned by NBC Universal, News Corp and Providence Equity Partners, has become the second largest video website in the US, with 350m clips viewed between February to March 2009. It still trails video-sharing giant YouTube.

The addition of Disney to the board and list of content providers will see popular programming from its ABC network streamed for free on Hulu, including episodes from major TV series such as Lost, Scrubs and Ugly Betty

Disney paid a “modest sum” for the deal, which is still subject to closing conditions and regulatory review. However, unlike Hulu’s previous agreements with NBC and News Corp, Disney has not paid a large fee and still retains control of the number of third party episodes aired on the site.

The Disney deal leaves CBS as the only major US broadcaster not to share its programming with Hulu. Instead CBS has backed its own free ad supported streaming site, TV.com, which it acquired from CNET in 2008.

Both TV.com and Hulu are understood to be in talks with potential partners for UK roll-outs of the respective services. Plans by the BBC, ITV and Channel 4 to launch a joint video on-demand platform, better known as Project Kangaroo, were blocked by the Competition Commission earlier this year so there is a gap in the market for a similar free ad-supported streaming service in the UK.

Show over for Blockbuster Video?

Movie rental company Blockbuster Inc. said Monday the risk that it may not complete financing deals raises "substantial doubt" about its ability to continue as a going concern.

Dallas-based Blockbuster, which has struggled amid the rising popularity of DVD-by-mail services like Netflix, as well as online movie sharing and viewing, disclosed the warning in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The company had already cautioned last month that its auditor was likely to raise doubts about its ability to stay in business.

A going-concern qualification refers to an auditor's assessment of a company's ability to continue to operate for the foreseeable future.

Last week, Blockbuster said its revolving and term loan agreement was amended, giving it a $250 million revolving loan refinancing that matures on Sept. 30, 2010. Lenders including JPMorgan also agreed to waive any default that could result if auditors attached a "going concern" classification.

But on Monday, the company said its lenders' obligation to fund the $250 million credit facility is subject to meeting certain conditions, and there can be no assurances that these conditions will be met.

Even if the loan is funded, the company said it "may not have sufficient liquidity to finance the ongoing obligations of our business, which raises substantial doubt about our ability to continue as a going concern."

Blockbuster said it believes that it will be in a position to close the amended credit facility by around May 11, though "there can be no assurance regarding these matters."

Blockbuster Inc. Shares fell 3 cents to 85 cents in after-hours trading, having closed earlier at 88 cents.
