Smallville Season 8 Episode 13 recap
At LuthorCorp, a "mad scientist" tests an experimental procedure on a human that will hopefully save Lex's life. The scientist orders a “transdermal evisceration” and a body in a water tank is set on fire. The body isn't Lex's however, it's Lana's!
Chloe visits Clark, who is so bummed out, he's rewatching Lana's break-up tape. He's trying to remind himself why Lana leaving is a good thing, even though he still wants to be with her. Dude, you're the Man of Steel, stop crying over a woman.... AND GEEZE!! START PAYING MORE ATTENTION TO LOIS!!!
Clark heads off to visit Lana, but finds her apartment is destroyed and Tess is there, expressing concern that Lana was taken because she was snooping into Lex's life.
Tess lets it slip that this isn't the first time Lex has abducted Lana. In other words, Lex's goons forced Lana to film her break-up tape before taking her away to one of their compounds after she woke up from her coma last season.
However, that plan didn't quite work out as planned as we see a flashback after Lana was abducted from her coma. She hijacked the van taking her away and kicked some major butt Chun-Li style, before going commando and cutting her hair.
Using just a knife in front of a bathroom mirror, She did a pretty good job!
Back to the present now, Clark finds a strange medallion in Lana's apartment that Tess recognizes as that of one of her colleagues, Carter. Clark finds him only to learn that he gave the medallion to Lana last season.
Another flashback now, This time it shows Lana asking Carter to train her since he used to work with the Green Berets. He put her in ice water baths (DAMN that's gotta be cold!) and made her burn her arms (DAMN that's gotta be hot!) to withstand pain and "live up to her true potential". She wanted power and left him to get it, dangerous as it may have been.
Carter tells Clark he got the job with Tess to help in Lana’s quest to take down Lex. He also lets it slip that while in Metropolis after their training, Lana visited Chloe. Speaking of Lana, the mad scientist’s second step in the Prometheus project is to graft nanotechnology onto Lana’s skin. The dialogue this man has to spew is some of the most absurd random science nonsense ever written.
Tess tries to recruit Regan, one of Lex’s evil guard dogs, by promising, “I’ll give you more milk bones than Lex ever did.” can not have felt good about saying that line. She asks him to get her the Prometheus technology so she can prevent Lex from being brought back to life.
Instead, he shows up to her office and kills her other bodyguard who found out Prometheus’ location. He threatens to reveal some of the juicy details he watched on Lex’s security tapes in her obituary, but instead she decides to kick the living crap out of him, literally. She keeps kicking him like an all-star punter until his blood is covering her face.
Clark heads to Chloe to fill in another piece of Lana’s back story.
Lana used the Isis Foundation to find out information on Project Ares, Lex’s plot to heal injured soldiers using alien DNA. They find a hidden safe in the Isis Foundation that includes a hard drive with information about Projects Ares and Prometheus.
The video takes us back to when Lana begged the scientist not to let Lex wear the special Prometheus body suit infused with alien technology that would turn him into a super hero. She wanted him to use Project Prometheus on her so Lex couldn’t get it.
Back in the mad scientist’s lab, Tess busts in asking for the Prometheus Suit and is surprised to see Lana as the test subject.
Tess wants the suit destroyed, but doing that would kill Lana.... which doesn’t really matter to Tess.
Tess fires her gun at the mad scientist and Clark speeds in to watch it. At the same time, Lana, who is now bonded to the super-powered Prometheus Suit, speeds in too and saves the mad scientist, taking time out to send a flirtatious look Clark’s way.
Afterwards, Lana visits Tess as a gesture of friendship. She tries to warn Tess against the danger of being overwhelmed by hatred for Lex. Not sure what the female equivalent of bromance is, but that’s what’s going on here. Lana pleads with Tess not to be a victim before speeding off in her Prometheus Suit.
She pays one last visit to Clark by meeting him on the roof of the Daily Planet. He tells her he thinks it’s a bad idea she has powers, but she’s OK with it. She doesn’t want to be a distraction in his life, and now that he doesn’t have to worry about her safety because she has powers, they can be together. As the episode comes to an end, they share a rooftop kiss as the sun rises behind them.
A few things of note, not really about the episode, but for Smallville in general:
- With only a few more episodes remaining until the end of the season, and as all indications have been pointing to, the series, They need to stop with the "filler episodes" and really move the progression of the Clark Kent - Superman story onwards! They're running out of time!!
- We all know that Clark doesn't end up with Lana, and it's fine to have that going on for a while, for the first few seasons, to help Clark kill time, give him a little something else to do..but COME ON NOW!!!
- Less then half a season to go, and Clark is still using his super-speed as his chosen mode of transportation.. At least show him LEARNING to fly!!
- Freeze breath was used what, once during the series run? did he forget he had that power since?
- What about the clap that creates a sonic boom?
- There should be a little more Doomsday, especially if they're going to be using him at all.
- Clark should be shown wearing glasses now, doesn't really make sense that he's not wearing them at all, then when he's just a bit older, he wears them all the time as a "disguise"
- Smallville needs to start sending everyone away NOW onto there future conquests(?) towards what they later become.... Lana needs to go away (I won't ruin it for those of you that don't know, but if you're curious, read up on what her future holds) Clark needs to man up and "embrace his destiny" already, Lois needs to become an ultra serious reporter, Chloe, well since she's only been introduce as a character on Smallville...have her do whatever they'd have her do... and so on and so on....
It irks me that Smallville is wasting what time they have left, WHO'S WITH ME??

Smallville season 8 ep 11 recap
Sorry for the late recap, I just now watched it, had it on my PVR and didn't have time to watch it earlier, being busy sucks.
*CONTAINS SPOILERS, IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE EPISODE STOP READING NOW!!!*
As you might recall, the end of episode 10, showed Doomsday causing all hell to break loose at Chloe's wedding at the Kent farm, before kidnapping her.
Episode 11 starts off showing the aftermath of the carnage,
Clark's barn is a wreck after Chloe's kidnapping. Clark tells Lana that he looked all over and can't find Chloe.
He says that Jor-el had warned him about Earth's ultimate destroyer. Lana says that she wants to go to the Isis Foundation to try to find out who took Chloe. Lana leaves.
A man with a metal mask teleports into the barn and destroys one of Clark's crates. He attacks Clark with an axe causing him to bleed. Just before the man is about to swing and kill Clark, the axe is magnetically pulled out of his hand by another man, Rokk, who appears.
A woman, Imra, then appears and distracts the masked man while another man, Garth, appears and knocks him out with an electric bolt.
Rokk removes the man's ring which causes the man to teleport out. Clark's visitors tell him that they are the Legion from the 31st century. Garth asks Clark where his cape is.
Clark sees that he is hurt. Imra says that his wounds will slowly heal.
Clark asks how they know him. Garth tells him that his actions are part of his history and that his things are now in a museum. Clark asks them who the masked man is.
Rokk tells him that the man is named the Persuader, part of the Human Supremacist Movement from the future. Rokk tells Clark that the Persuader stole one of the Legion rings and jumped back in time. Rokk says that Clark influenced Earth to welcome alien immigrants with open arms.
Garth says that he himself is an alien. Imra communicates with Clark telepathically and tells him that people from various worlds meet on Earth. Garth notices that the Phantom Crystal, which was in the crate, was destroyed by the Persuader. Rokk says that the Persuader is trying to make sure that Braniac survives.
Davis wakes up in the Fortress of Solitude and asks Chloe if she is okay. Chloe says that she is perfect but Davis sees that she looks strange. Chloe grabs his face and says that he appears undamaged. Chloe tells Davis that Chloe ceased to exist as soon as they entered the fortress.
Chloe says that Davis was created by a Kryptonian geneticist. She tells him that he is undergoing a metamorphosis. Chloe says that it's sad that he was attracted to the woman that she is now controlling. Chloe says that it is now time for him to incubate in a crystalis to become Doomsday, a being who doesn't feel pain.
She tells him that his mission... is to eradicate Clark Kent and the rest of the planet.
Back at the barn, the Legion tells Clark that today is the day when Clark is supposed to destroy Braniac. Imra says that she can read that Clark thinks that Chloe is Braniac's host.
Rokk says that Clark must kill Braniac even if the cost is Chloe's life.
Rokk says that if he doesn't destroy Brainiac, there will be no future.
They tell Clark that the Persuader destroyed the Phantom Crystal which could have protected Chloe.
Clark and the Legion go to the rail road tracks. Clark tells the Legion that he needs to defeat Braniac himself. Garth asks Clark why he travelled on the ground and Clark says that he can't fly.
Rokk says that he has never heard about Chloe. Garth says that Chloe is not in the history books probably because she didn't survive. Clark runs off. Garth says that Clark is nothing like the man of steel that he read about.
Lana goes through Chloe's file. Imra arrives and tells Lana that she is from the future. Imra says that Chloe has been taken over by Braniac and that the only way to stop him is to kill Chloe.
Imra says that they need to convince Clark to kill Braniac. Imra says that she read about Lana in her books and knows that she is the reason he grew up to become a great hero. Imra says that if Braniac survives, billions of people will die. Imra tells Lana that she should know about sacrifice. Imra reads Lana thoughts and sees that she hasn't told Clark where she has been and about her plans.
Clark goes to the Fortress of Solitude and finds Chloe possessed by Braniac. Chloe tells Clark that his father is gone. Clark tells Braniac to leave Chloe alone. Braniac/Chloe says that as soon as she takes all of the planet's information, Doomsday will destroy it.
Clark grabs Braniac/Chloe and she tells him to kill her. Clark hesistates and Braniac/Chloe says that she knew that he would not harm him if he took over Chloe's body. Chloe throws Clark across the room then runs off. He tries to follow her, but is unable to keep up. After he leaves, we see Davis encased in a crystalis.
The Legion goes downtown and are surprised at the low level of technology the people are using. Imra and Garth tell Rokk that they need to kill Chloe themselves.
Clark goes to Lana and says that Braniac took over Chloe's body. Lana says that Imra said that the only way to stop Braniac is to kill Chloe.
Clark says that he is putting Chloe's life ahead of billions of people. Lana tells Clark that the Clark she knew would try to save both Chloe and the world.
Braniac/Chloe goes to the Daily Planet and accesses the data files. Lana tells Clark that there is a power surge at the Daily Planet. Lana sees three planets on her screen which puts her in a trance. Imra tries to enter Braniac's mind but she is blocked out.
Garth and Rokk combine powers, shoot an energy blast and knock out Braniac.
Imra says that Chloe shows some brainwave activity and that they have a little time before Brainiac reboots. Garth and Rokk find two Daily Planet employees in a trance while staring at a screen and realize that Braniac is draining their knowledge.
The legion lays Chloe down and Garth takes a dagger to stab her. Garth hesitates and Rokk takes the knife. Just before Rokk stabs Chloe, Clark arrives and takes the knife.
Rokk tells Clark that they need to kill Chloe. Clark says that one of his rules is that they should never kill. Clark says that they need to help Chloe. Imra looks in Chloe's mind and says that she can hear her.
The team brings Chloe to Clark's barn. Clark says that they should try to connect to Chloe's mind. Clark tells Rokk and Garth that they should be able to disable Braniac.
Imra says that Braniac is coming back on line. Rokk and Garth use their powers and hold Braniac back. They remove the particles that make up Braniac and Rokk holds it in his palm of his hand.
Elsewhere, the crystalis that Davis is encased in, begins to crack.
At the Isis Foundation, Lana regains consciousness. Clark calls to Chloe who wakes up and says that she is fine. Chloe tells Clark that she feels a whole lot dumber.
The next day Clark meets with Chloe at her apartment. Chloe says that she will feel better as soon as she meets up with Jimmy in Star City.
Clark says that there is no sign of Doomsday. Clark asks Chloe if she knows about his secret and she says that she remembers. Chloe thanks Clark for not giving up on her.
Chloe says that she hopes the next time if there is no other choice he would do what is best for the world.
Imra looks over photos of Lana and Clark. Lana arrives and says that she is looking for Clark. Imra tells Lana that she is very lucky. Lana says that she is curious about her future with Clark.
Imra says that she will be remembered for a lot more than her relationship with Clark.
Clark, Garth and Rokk help each other fix the barn. Garth finds a baseball and asks Clark if he can keep it as a souvenir. Clark uses his heat ray vision to sign the ball then gives it to Garth. Rokk says that he has learned that they should preserve life at all costs. Rokk gives Clark a ring and tells him to put on the ring if he wants to go jump to 3009. Rokk tells Clark to be careful in the days ahead. The three use their rings and teleport back to the future.
Lana meets with Clark while he examines the ring. Clark tells Lana that it is strange to meet people who know what he is going to accomplish. Lana says that the people from the future didn't know about Chloe.
Clark says that he is not sure if he is going to live up to the deeds that the Legion was talking about. Lana says that they are responsible for their lives.
Back at the fortress, Doomsday breaks free from his crystalis.
After episode 10, I was really hoping for a showdown between Clark and Doomsday, but I guess we will have to wait a while.
The trio that went back in time were perfect for taking down Braniac. They were kind of goofy though with Rokk reminding me of Mack from Always Sunny and Garth being a straight up dork.
I am curious about what Lana is planning on doing, should be a really interesting remainder of the season/series.
What'd you think of the episode??
